About the Author


Dr. M. Ramachandran

Dr M Ramachandran had a distinguished career in the Indian Administrative Service, spanning over 38 years. He was Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand, and then Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Urban Development for a period of four years. It was during his tenure that the annual feature of Urban Mobility India International Conference and the National Urban Transport Awards system was initiated. He pioneered initiatives like introduction of the concept of Service Level Benchmarks, providing 15,000 modern new buses to more than 70 cities, urban transport reforms at the city level, urban bus specifications, BRTS in more cities and the first system wide PPP in Metro rail in Hyderabad.
